About Us

Meet Janet

As with many who work in the birth world Janet was drawn to caring for birthing families at a young age. After attending her first home birth in the mid 1980s and reading Spiritual Midwifery by Ina May Gaskin for the first time, Janet earned her Registered Nursing degree with hopes to become a midwife. She began her nursing career in New Jersey working with Planned Parenthood of Greater Northern New Jersey, eventually relocating to Alaska in 1992.
Janet started her own family in the Great North and continued her love for the birthing process throughout her almost 18 years in Alaska. She gained experience as a preemie and NICU mom, which gave her a unique perspective into how to support a birthing family during various challenges and changes. Janet also started her own wedding cake business in Alaska to quench her thirst for baking beautiful scratch wedding cakes and bringing joy to her clients on their special day!
Janet worked as an OB/GYN office nurse for several years caring for families as they journeyed through everything from IVF treatments, prenatal and postpartum care, high risk pregnancies and general gynecological care for women of all ages, needs and walks of life. In 2013, Janet moved to Central Oregon for the warm climate and sense of community. She earned her Massage Therapy license to further fill her tool bag and offer this comfort to expectant families.
Janet is a DONA (Doulas Of North America) trained doula who has completed all required hours of training in doula care as well as all required coursework by the State of Oregon.
Janet is a mom of two grown kids, enjoys cooking, gardening and baking and often travels to her clients with nourishing food and fresh garden blooms!

Mission Statement

Our goal is to offer birth support for every family who wishes to have it. This is a standard goal for all birth workers and nothing defines our mission better than this sentence.
The nuclear family is no longer typical when it comes to how we grow our families. Whether working with a healthy pregnancy with an experienced “mom and dad”, or a first-time single parent going through this process alone – nothing is without stress, questions and concerns. Because of this the care given must be designed to meet the clients’ specific needs and desires. There is no cookie cutter model for care! Our goal will remain to provide tailored care and specific references that will enhance our clients’ birth experience and provide support and information during the postpartum period so as to create a healthy and happy beginning during this special time of growth.
Our goal to offer affordable care is also of utmost importance. We currently work on a sliding scale and will soon be accepting OHP for Doula care! We aim to take some of the financial hardship out of the picture so that our clients can concentrate on the healthy and supported growth of their family.
